[′mal‚kīt] (petrology)
A fine-grained lamprophyre with small, rare phenocrysts or hornblende, labradorite, and sometimes biotite embedded in a matrix of hornblende, andesine, and some quartz.

malchite. Masses of these fine filaments were sometimes exposed when breaking open host rock known to contain malachite.
