mass-to-luminosity ratio
mass-to-luminosity ratio
The mass of a system divided by its luminosity, usually expressed in solar units such that the mass-to-luminosity ratio of the Sun is one. Dark matter is required to bind systems that have a high mass-to-luminosity ratio, such as groups and clusters of galaxies.Collins Dictionary of Astronomy © Market House Books Ltd, 2006
