The system operates from a personal computer with 8
megabytes of random access memory (RAM) and a 540
megabyte hard drive.
Contained in its massive tower case were a 40
megabyte hard disk, 2 MB of RAM, an EGA video card, 15-inch color monitor, and it could run the newest version of Lotus 123.
"In this kind of business, you don't like to throw away anything," says Bakshi, who archives all completed client work on Syquest removable 45
megabyte cartridges.
Other costs are attributable to the inadvertent over-replication of data--for every
megabyte file that is created, there exists 10-15
megabytes of that file residing on multiple full backup tape sets, HSM tapes, archive tapes, and replication disks.
