middle lobe syndrome
[′mid·əl ¦lōb ′sin‚drōm] (medicine)
A complex of symptoms due to enlarged lymph nodes compressing the bronchus of the right middle lobe, causing atelectasis, bronchiectasis, or chronic pneumonitis of the lobe.

Atelectasis of the RML has been known for many years as the middle lobe syndrome.[15,16] The etiology of middle lobe syndrome in 933 patients collected from 12 reports has been investigated.[4] Benign inflammation (47%), malignant neoplasm (22%), bronchiectasis (15%), and tuberculosis (9%) are the major reasons of the RML syndrome.
