Even the miter joints can be cut with a simple handsaw
miter box. We used an 18-gauge finish nailer to make the job go faster, but you can just as easily predrill and hand-nail.
You may wish to make a simple jig or
miter box that positions the wood at a 60' angle to the cutting blade.
On the table saw and
miter box stands, make sure to set the shelf supports (part D; Photo 7) in place first and measure between them.
You can use a handsaw and a
miter box to cut pieces for the first three.
A power
miter box simplifies the task of getting tight-fitting miters on the top cap.
Other supplies include a box of #6 finishing nails, ten 2-inch #10 screws, four fender washers, four 4-inch strap hinges with screws, 1 quart wood glue or contact cement, 2 quarts polyurethane, and wood putty You'll also need a screwdriver, hammer, nail set, utility knife, circular saw, drill, and

You could install crown using a
miter box, handsaw and hammer.
Using a radial-arm saw, table saw, or handsaw in a
miter box, cut 24 rounds, each 3/8 inch thick.
The second project is an easy-to-install urethane molding that you can cut with a handsaw (no power
miter box necessary) and then glue and nail to the walls.
A
miter box would help make controlled cuts with a handsaw, but this takes longer.
