MIX

(1) (Multimedia Internet EXchange) An Internet access point that supports quality of service (QoS) for multimedia traffic. See NAP and MPLS.

(2) (Medical Information EXchange System) A health information exchange (HIE) system for Windows from SETECS Medical Technologies (www.setecs.com). MIX enables interfacing to any EMR/EHR system that supports the HL7 messaging standard. Issued to both patients and healthcare providers, PIV-compliant smart cards provide strong security (see PIV).

(3) (Mix) A website that aggregates personalized content for members. Originally developed as StumbleUpon in 2001, it migrated to Mix in 2018. Members are asked to select at least three categories of interest, and they may follow other members that share similar interests. For more information, visit www.mix.com.

Generally, an IVF process has multiple contact points, like oocyte retrieval, sperm collection/processing, oocyte stripping, ICSI or insemination, fertilization, embryo transfer, embryo vitrification, and biopsy, and each of these stages is prone to miscommunication and mix-ups. An IVF witness system uses radio frequency identification tags for tracking and recording patients' information and the biological samples during the IVF process.
The majority of these harmful incidents (n=5) involved mix-ups between conventional (non-lipid) amphotericin B and lipid formulations of amphotericin B.
But the experts have been unable to provide figures on the number of "mix-ups" that occur.
Between 1996 and April 2004, the FDA received several reports of medical gas mix-ups resulting in at least 8 patient deaths and 18 serious patient injuries.
