Benign serous cyst was the commonest benign tumour followed by mature cystic teratoma and
mucinous cyst. Serous cyst-adenocarcinoma was the commonest malignant tumour followed closely by endometrioid carcinoma and granulosa cell tumour.
As a result of histopathological examinations, four patients were diagnosed with simple
mucinous cyst, four with mucinous cystadenoma, three with mucosal hyperplasia, and two with mucinous cystadenocarcinoma.
Morphologically common benign ovarian tumors include cysts (both follicular and luteal) followed by serous cyst adenomas and
mucinous cyst adenomas4.

Surface epithelial tumours were common benign tumours and consist of serous cyst adenoma with a frequency of 55% followed by
mucinous cyst adenoma 20%.
Mucinous cyst adenoma is the most common form of benign neoplasms of the appendix, with an incidence of 0.6% in appendectomies [15].
In their study report, the researchers write that their study also showed promising results in detecting
mucinous cyst lesions, which are a precursor to cancer.
Glandular cells in the aspirate, when present, can be a marker for a
mucinous cyst. But the investigators also examine the cystic fluid for the presence of carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA).
"A biopsy of tissue might miss some important areas of cancer, but an aspiration of a fluid
mucinous cyst is a good sample.
