In 2007-08, Clean Seas produced more than 1.25 million yellowtail kingfish fingerlings and 200 000
mulloway fingerlings at its facilities.
Other fish considered when developing the menu were locally caught species of leatherjacket and garfish (to minimise food miles), as well as western rock lobster, wild caught
mulloway and calamari.
They also made catches of snapper and
mulloway, sleek, beautiful-looking fish with mauve-rainbow colours.
State Fisheries had noted 25 species of fish on this reef, ranging from small baitfish such as yellowtail, Trachurus novaezelandiae, to 15 kg yellowtail kingfish, Seriola lalandi, and similar-sized
mulloway, Argyrosomus hololepidotus.
However, potassium deficiency was shown to negatively impact the performance of various other high market value aquaculture species such as Pacific white shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei (8), (13-15) Australian snapper Pagrus auratus (7), (16), barramundi Lates calcarifer (17-19), western king shrimp Penaeus latisulcatus (20), tiger shrimp Penaeus monodon (9), (11), (21),
mulloway Argyrosomus japonicus (22), (23) and giant prawn Macrobrachium rosenbergii (24).

The project has trialed snapper (Pagrus auratus),
mulloway (Argyrosomus japonicus), silver perch (Bidyanus bidyanus), rainbow trout (Onchorynchus mykiss), black tiger prawn (Penaeus monodon) and Japanese tiger prawn (P.
