neutral conductor

neutral conductor

[′nü·trəl kən′dək·tər]
(electricity)
A conductor of a polyphase circuit or of a single-phase, three-wire circuit which is intended to have a potential such that the potential differences between it and each of the other conductors are approximately equal in magnitude and are also equally spaced in phase.

neutral conductor

1. In an electric circuit consisting of three or more conductors, the electric conductor that usually is so energized that the voltages between it and the other conductors are equal in magnitude.
2. In a three-phase three-wire electrical circuit: a conductor whose potential differences between it and each of the other conductors are equal in magnitude and equally spaced in phase.

Explaining the ABC, the relevant officials told the meeting that it was overhead power line using several insulated phase conductors bundled tightly together, usually with a bare neutral conductor. They are closer together to the point of touching but each conductor is surrounded by an insulating layer (except for the neutral line).
The triplex underground aluminum URD cable has three conductors distributing two-phase power and while the third is a neutral conductor which discharges electrons to the ground to prevent electrocutions and short-circuits.
In the past, many electricians did not include a neutral conductor at switch locations, and the result was the equipment grounding conductor being used as the neutral conductor.
2 and 3 are presented (as an example) selected secondary current wave forms [I".sub.BL1] provided by current transformer [PP.sub.L1] installed at the beginning of the protected line in phase B (faulty one), and currents from the neutral conductor ([I.sub.0z], [I".sub.0z]) respectively.
A spokesperson said: "The power cut was due to the theft of a copper neutral conductor from a local substation and affected 222 properties in the area.
The FMBD NEO with a neutral conductor is intended for use in four-wire systems or three phases, neutral conductor, and ground.
Due to harmonics generated by the non linear loads, there is a significant amount of harmonics in the neutral conductor as seen in fig.5.17.
In these facilities, system grounding--the intentional connection of a phase or neutral conductor to earth--allows the flow of electrical current to be controlled and monitored.
