Literature search: In an attempt to retrieve the original English and Farsi language articles about the frequency of Y chromosome microdeletions among Iranian infertile men with azoospermia or severe oligozoospermia, a systematic search was performed on international and Iranian databases including PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, Google Scholar, IranMedex (iranmedex.com), MEDLIB (medlib.ir), IranDoc (irandoc.ac.ir), and Scientific Information Database (sid.ir).

The study also confirmed that [DELTA]mtDNA affected mitochondrial respiration chain function and resulted in oligozoospermia, asthenozoospermia and teratozoospermia leading to infertility in mice.
The prevalence of chromosomal aberrations is dependent on the definition of 'infertility', and is approximately 2% in males with combined indications of infertility (9), 5% in men with oligozoospermia and 14% with azoospermia (10).
Oligozoospermic had low sperm counts which had further two subdivisions; Oligozoospermia coupled with abnormal motility, group was referred to as Oligoasthenozoospermia.
The most common causes of infertility were male factors (n=6) consisting of oligozoospermia (n=3), oligoasthenozoospermia (n=2) and teratozoospermia (n=1) cases, followed by polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) (n=5), unexplained infertility (n=3) and endometriosis (n=2) cases.
