opacus

[ō′pā·kəs]
(meteorology)
A variety of cloud (sheet, layer, or patch), the greater part of which is sufficiently dense to obscure the sun; found in the genera altocumulus, altostratus, stratocumulus, and stratus; cumulus and cumulonimbus clouds are inherently opaque.
