oscillating universe
[′äs·ə‚lād·iŋ ′yü·nə‚vərs] (astronomy)
An extension of the closed universe model in which the universe, after contracting toward a singularity, undergoes another big bang to begin a new cycle, and thenceforth oscillates between successive expansions and contractions, each contraction followed by a new big bang.
