Now academics have found evidence that the vast stones came from two
outcrops in the Preseli Hills and were transported more than 140 miles to Salisbury.
Nests occurred in 88 crevices from 74 individual rock
outcrops. Seventy-one
outcrops (96%) contained one brood crevice, while two
outcrops contained two brood crevices (3%), and one
outcrop contained four brood crevices (1%).
The difference in the geochemical parameters like source rock quality, source rock maturity and hydrocarbon potential of the
outcrop and well data is attributed to the overburden thickness, geothermal gradient, and environment of deposition.
Unable to land on the
