parallel interface

A link between two devices in which all the information transferred between them is transmitted simultaneously over separate conductors. Also known as parallel port.

parallel interface

A multiline channel that transfers one or more bytes simultaneously. For years, desktop and laptop computers were connected to printers via a 36-wire parallel interface, transferring a byte of data over eight wires, the remaining wires used for control signals. The parallel interface gave way to a serial interface. See parallel cable, parallel port and serial interface.
