Caption: Figure 3:
Periodic acid Schiff (PAS) staining on high-powered field.
Periodic acid Schiff reaction (PAS).--Carbohydrate and glycoprotein deposits in sections of spider abdomens were localized by hydrolysis for 10 min in 0.5%
periodic acid in distilled water, followed by a 10 min wash in running tap water and 15 min of staining in freshly prepared 1% Schiff reagent.
(b) Irregularity and patchy thickening of basement membrane (
periodic acid shift x200).
The positive reactions of the adrenal capsule of the African giant rat with Masson's Trichrome,
Periodic Acid Schiff and Verhoeff stain imply that the capsule is rich in collagen, carbohydrate and elastic fibers, respectively.
The specimens are rehydrated in 70% ethyl alcohol and then placed successively in
periodic acid Schiff reagent, sodium metasulfite, Gill's haematoxylin, and Scott's tap water substitute for 2 minutes each, rinsing in two changes of tap water in between each step.
Grocott-Gomori's Methenamine Silver (GMS) and
Periodic Acid Schiff (PAS).
All the Fungal balls received in the laboratory were subjected to Macroscopic examination, Potassium Hydroxide(KOH) wet mount, Lacto Phenol Cotton Blue(LPCB) mount, Histopathological examination (HPE) after Haematoxylin and Eosin (H&E) staining and
Periodic Acid Schiff (PAS) staining, Culture and Radiological examination prior to surgery.
Special stains including Ziehl Neelsen,
periodic acid Schiff and Gomori's methenamine silver were used where indicated.
The sections were coloured by Gomori's trichrome (1950), periodic acid-Schiff (PAS) (McManus, 1948; Bancroft & Cook), Alcian Blue Ph 2.5 and Ph1.0 (Pearse, 1985; Bancroft & Cook), Acetylation + PAS (Pearse), acetylation + deacetylation + PAS (Pearse), acid hydrolysis + PAS (Quintarelli, 1961),
periodic acid + phenylhydrazine + Schiff reagent (Bancroft & Cook),
periodic acid + thiosemicarbazide + Schiff reagent (Pearse; Bancroft & Cook) and observed in an Olympus BH-2 optical microscope.
[4] They show
periodic acid Schiff, cytokeratin, and HER2/neu positivity, [4] and ER, [4] PR, [4] and p63 negativity.
