peritrichous ciliate Zoothamnium plumula Kahl, 1933 (Protozoa: Ciliophora) an ectocommensal organism from cultured scallops in Qingdao, China.
The presence of
peritrichous colonial ciliates identified as Epistylis and Vorticella spp., and suctorians identified as Acineta and Tokophrya spp., occurring as ectocommensals or epibionts was confirmed.
Bacteria may have a single flagellum at one end (monotrichous), more than one flagellum at one end (lophotrichous), or flagella all over the cell (
peritrichous) (Figure 6-9).
parasanguis has been localized to the tip of
peritrichous surface fimbria on these bacteria (58).
