phase rotator

phase rotator

A device that adds extra delay to one arm of an interferometer (see radio telescope), especially one used for aperture synthesis, in order to keep the phase difference close to zero as a radio source moves across the sky. When the phase difference is made equal to zero, the process is called fringe-stopping.
