powered controls

powered controls

A form of control system in which the normal movement of controls is assisted by the use of hydraulic or pneumatic actuators to reduce the amount of force the pilot must use to operate flight controls. The pilot does not feel the forces exerted by the airflow on the control surfaces if the controls are irreversible. In this case, the only force the pilot feels in operating the controls is artificial feel. See power-assisted controls.
