predictive maintenance

Determining when to service equipment by estimating component degradation. Predictive maintenance (PDM) is more cost effective than preventive maintenance, which is routinely scheduled service and downtime. Service predictions are based on monitoring the physical hardware by using infrared and acoustic signals, vibration, oil analysis and sound levels. See preventive maintenance and remedial maintenance.
