A survey of intestinal
protozoan and helminth parasites in Karachi.
Ultrapure water was used for the negative control and genomic DNA (lOng) from the
protozoan cell culture was used for the positive control.
Furthermore, amongst the blood
protozoan, Anaplasma, Babesia, Thelleria and Trypanosma were found prevalent.
Among the
protozoan parasites in the male patients, Entamoeba histolytica/dispar was seen in 4, Giardia lamblia in 6, Ascaris lumbricoides was detected in 1.
Stool specimens were collected and examined by direct light microscopy for the assessment of intestinal
protozoan and worm infestation.
There have been recorded outbreaks of infection with Cryptosporidium parvum, Giardia duodenalis and Entamoeba histolytica due to treated tap water in several developed countries such as the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and Sweden, as chlorine that is commonly used to disinfect water does not kill
protozoan parasites.
Protozoan taxonomic features were also analysed in counts from fixed samples.
The parasites,
protozoans in the genus Plasmodium, exist in several distinct life stages within the human body, each of which has different treatment requirements.
Microalgae were cultured in modified Guillard f/2 medium under constant light and aeration, harvested in the log phase (4.0 x [10.sup.6] cells [mL.sup.-1]) and supplied to the
protozoan culture.
"TODAY'"Politicians now emit the candy floss ectoplasm
protozoan hourly victories that are as short-lived as the mayfly.
Biologists, zoologists, marine scientists, pathologists, fish health specialists, and other scientists from around the world cover
protozoan and metazoan parasites that cause disease or mortality in economically important fish and discuss their clinical signs, diagnosis, external/internal lesions, pathophysiology, and protective and control strategies.
