residuary resistance

[rə′zij·ə‚wer·ē ri′zis·təns]
(naval architecture)
The sum of wavemaking resistance and eddy resistance opposing the motion of a ship through the water; the resistance which remains when frictional resistance is subtracted from total fluid resistance or drag.
