CT imaging with or without contrast confirms the diagnosis by demonstrating the ureter in the greater
sciatic foramen posterolateral to the ischial spine and anterior to the piriformis.
The piriformis muscle originates on the ventral side of the sacrum, exits via the
sciatic foramen deep to the iliopsoas muscle, and tracks deep to gluteus medius to insert on the superior aspect of the greater trochanter.
Macroscopically, since its origin from the greater
sciatic foramen the rat sciatic nerve is constituted by a single fascicle that follows a caudal path toward the popliteal fossa (distal region), where it branches into three divisions: tibial, fibular, and sural nerves.
It passes under the piriform muscle and exits the pelvis through the greater
sciatic foramen. It divides into two trunks at the upper part of the popliteal fossa.
* The morphology (Shape) of greater
sciatic foramen was studied & the shape was deep in both the foetuses.
These ligaments attach the cervix and upper vagina to the pelvic wall in the area of the greater
sciatic foramen. When these suspensory fibers are damaged, the cervix, upper vagina prolapses downward away from the greater
sciatic foramen, and fall below the normal position at the level of the ischial spine.
The sciatic nerve enters the gluteal region via the '
sciatic foramen' (lesser or greater?), and lies between the 'flexors' (did they mean the hamstrings?).
