sling psychrometer
[′sliŋ si′kräm·əd·ər] (engineering)
A psychrometer in which the wet- and dry-bulb thermometers are mounted upon a frame connected to a handle at one end by means of a bearing or a length of chain; the psychrometer may be whirled in the air for the simultaneous measurement of wet- and dry-bulb temperatures.

psychrometer to which a handle is attached; the apparatus is whirled in the air until the reading of the wet-bulb thermometer reaches a constant value.

sling psychrometer
An instrument used to measure the amount of water vapor or relative humidity in the air. It is a combination of wet- and dry-bulb thermometers mounted on a frame with a handle that allows it to be swung around to permit air to move across the psychrometer. See psychrometer.

Two years ago, we wrote about the pen-type and
sling psychrometers. If you recall, we rather liked them, because they could give us relatively accurate readings in a short time; they are compact, portable, and surprisingly durable and inexpensive.
On rare occasions, we have questioned the accuracy of these units and have used a
sling psychrometer to confirm the readings.
Over the years, we found that a simple temperature- and humidity-measuring device, either a
sling psychrometer or a compact digital thermo hygrometer, is indispensable.
