Dioctahedral (montmorillonite) and trioctahedral (saponite) clay minerals, and their chemical varieties characterized by swelling properties and high cation-exchange capacities.

[20] have measured this property of 18 smectite clays from 14 deposits, and based on these measurement results, they claimed that the value of the thermal conductivity was jointly influenced by soil parameters such as the water content, the dry density, the microstructure of clay samples, and the mineral composition of the soil as well.
