1. any of various birds of the genus Gallinago (or Capella) and related genera, such as G. gallinago (common or Wilson's snipe), of marshes and river banks, having a long straight bill: family Scolopacidae (sandpipers, etc.), order Charadriiformes
2. any of various similar related birds, such as certain sandpipers and curlews

A military source in Diyala told the National Iraqi News Agency (NINA) today that "some areas of Diyala, including the villages of Khanaqin and the Waqf Basin witnessed the return of sniping cases by the elements of Daesh, which was used by the organization during the battles to liberate the cities and places that fell under the occupation of Daesh terrorists in 2014.
