An umbrella term for reaching out and sharing information with friends, family and colleagues on social networking sites such as Facebook (www.facebook.com), Twitter (www.twitter.com) and LinkedIn (www.linkedin.com), as well as social bookmarking sites such as Pinboard (www.pinboard.in) and Delicious (www.delicious.com). Social sites are fed information not only by original postings but also from direct links on websites (see social sharing). See social networking service, Mastodon and social bookmarking site.
