software architecture

An umbrella term for the design of software. All software interacts with other software, and there are rules for creating those interfaces. Operating systems set a standard that applications must follow, and applications may be designed to conform to other standards. There is a design, or architecture, in pretty much everything in the information field from feasibility study, through development to the final installation.
