Spilite

a paleotypal basaltic rock in which feldspar is represented by secondary albite. Spilites form as the result of underwater eruptions. Spilites have a microlithic or, less frquently, diabasic structure and consist of long, narrow microlites of albitized plagioclase with chlorite and ore minerals filling the spaces between the microlites. Together with keratophyres, spilites make up spilite-keratophyre formations of the geosynclinal stage of development of the mobile belts of the earth’s crust.

The crystalline rocks reached by boreholes comprise low- to medium-grade metamorphosed volcano-sedimentary complexes (sericite-chlorite, sericite and graphite phyllite, metadiabase, metagabbro) on the contact between the Karkonosze-Jizera crystalline unit (Malkovsky et al., 1974; Kachlik and Patocka, 1998) and the Tepla-Barrandian Unit (green schist, schist, spilite, amphibolites).
A minor feldspar component occurs in trace quantities, as do fragments of slate, lydite and spilite rocks.
The Slapnice Member consists of conglomerates whose clasts include shales, sandstones, spilites, silicites and other rocks of Proterozoic and Cambrian age (Kukal, 1971).
