spongioblast
[′spən·jē·ō‚blast] (embryology)
A primordial cell arising from the ectoderm of the embryonic neural tube which differentiates to form the neuroglia, the ependymal cells, the neurolemma sheath cells, the satellite cells of ganglions, and Müller's fibers of the retina.
