stripping

1. In grading an area in which a foundation is to be built, the preliminary operation of removing trees, shrubs, vegetation, and topsoil.
2. Removing old paint, wallpaper, distemper, etc., by the use of a blowtorch, paint remover, steam stripping appliance, stripping knife, or other scraping tools.
3. Sealing the joint between a metal sheet and a built-up roofing membrane.
4. Taping the joints between insulation boards.
