super floppy
(1) An earlier category of high-capacity floppy-like disk drives. In the early 1990s, the failed Floptical disk was the first. Later, the Zip drive fell into the super floppy category. See Zip disk and Floptical.
(2) An earlier 3.5" floppy disk developed by IBM and available on certain IBM PCs. With a 2.88MB capacity, the Extra High Density (ED) floppy drives were compatible with 1.44MB floppies, which were the standard, commonly used diskette.
