A tape-recording mechanism that is mounted on a motor board, including the tape transport, electronics, and controls, but no power amplifier or loudspeaker.

Tape Deck

 

a tape recorder without an output audio amplifier and speaker. A tape deck is used for recording from a micro-phone, turntable, or receiver. Unlike a complete tape recorder, however, it allows for playback only through a headset. For playback through speakers, the tape deck is connected to and uses the audio amplifier of a radio receiver.
