a closely woven worsted or semiworsted fabric, usually made in a serge twill or uncomplicated diagonal weave. A monotone woof shot and a warp, twisted from two threads of different colors, are used. Each thread of the warp may consist of either two worsted threads or one worsted and one cotton thread. The surface of covert cloth has a finely variegated design. Covert comes in various colors, usually in gray-green, beige-brown, and steel-blue tones. It is used for coats and suits. There is also cotton covert (an imitation of worsted covert), which is used primarily for raincoats.
