Thigmotropism is a word derived from the Greek thigma ("touch") and refers to directional growth caused by plants touching a solid object.
This bending response to light is called phototropism, and other tropisms include a response to gravity (geotropism) and a response to touch (thigmotropism).
thigmotropism: Turning or bending response of a plant upon direct contact with a solid surface or object.
