toeplate

1. Same as kickplate, 2.
2. A flat metal bar attached to the outer edge of a metal grating or to the rear edge of a tread, and projecting above the top surface of the grating or tread so as to form a lip or curb.

The same close inletting is found around the edges of the buttplate, for the sidelock screw washer and for the toeplate. The authentically styled Leman triggerguard is partially inletted at the front, but sits completely on the surface of the wood at the rear.
If there's no toeplate and you can't reach the idler and motor pulleys, you'll have to take off the rear panel, which is secured by screws.
