Abbreviated at an end, as if cut off.

(control systems)

To stop a robotic process before it has been completed.

(mathematics)

To drop digits at the end of a numerical value; the number 3.14159265 is truncated to five figures in 3.1415, whereas it would be 3.1416 if rounded off to five figures.

To approximate the sum of an infinite series by the sum of a finite number of its terms.

To terminate an infinite sequence of successively better approximations of a quantity after a finite number of such approximations.

To construct from a geometric solid another solid consisting of those portions of the original solid that lie between two planes.

To cut off leading or trailing digits or characters from an item of data without regard to the accuracy of the remaining characters. Truncation occurs when data are converted into a new record with smaller field lengths than the original.
