[′tər·bō‚grid ′plāt] (chemical engineering)
A tray for distillation columns that consists of a flat grid of parallel slots extending over the entire cross-sectional area of the column; the liquid level on each tray is maintained by a dynamic balance between down-flowing liquid and up-flowing vapor.
