ultraviolet photoemission spectroscopy

(spectroscopy)
A spectroscopic technique in which photons in the energy range 10-200 electronvolts bombard a surface and the energy spectrum of the emitted electrons gives information about the states of electrons in atoms and chemical bonding. Abbreviated UPS.
