For a
unitary air conditioner or heat pump, the refrigerant mass flow rate primarily depends on the compressor discharge and suction pressures ([P.sub.dis] and [P.sub.suct]).
At first glance, this seems a bit high if one considers a 1,000 cfm (470 L/s) energy-efficient
unitary air conditioner likely would have a 0.25 hp (0.2 kW) fan.
The consistent finding is that the SHR of individual
unitary air conditioner models has varied between 0.65 and 0.80 at all EER levels, from 1970 to the present, with no statistically significant correlation between either the EER and the SHR or between the year of manufacture and SHR.

Unitary Air Conditioner with Integral Dedicated Outdoor Air System." Final Report by TIAX LLC to the National Energy Technology Laboratory, U.S.
The demand savings for
unitary air conditioner and heat pump fans shipped is 1,892 MW or 18,920 MW if shipments remained constant for 10 years.
Because most
unitary air conditioners are controlled by thermostats that can only sense the sensible load, the sensible EER and sensible SEER would more closely represent the potential impacts of airflow and ductwork on system performance in the field.
Demand for
unitary air conditioners is also projected to post above average gains globally, particularly in markets with strong nonresidential construction activity.
This category consists of three product lines: room air conditioners;
unitary air conditioners; and other cooling equipment, such as chillers and dehumidifiers.

Unitary Air Conditioners".
Shipments of air-source heat pumps and
unitary air conditioners surged past the 8 million unit mark in 2005 for the first time, ending the year with 8,607,501 units shipped, shattering the previous record of 7,401,067 set in 2004, according to the Air-Conditioning & Refrigeration Institute (ARI).
Likewise, output rates of growth of
unitary air conditioners and commercial refrigeration equipment slowed after 1973; for warm air furnaces, the rate declined.
