The authors have been investigating the utility of high molecular weight, linear poly(
vinyl ether)s possessing fatty acid ester pendent chains for a variety of applications including surface coatings.

REAL TIME INFRARED SPECTROSCOPY: Real-time IR was used to study the disappearance of the
vinyl ether peak at 1639 [cm.sup.-1] as well as to monitor the extent of reaction.
One surprising trait on hybrids synthesized via cationic photopolymerization is that
vinyl ether, known as the most reactive function, has been poorly explored so far.
The unsaturated bio-based compounds that were first converted to
vinyl ether monomers and subsequently polymerized were plant oil triglycerides, cardanol, and eugenol.
Fluoroolefin
vinyl ether (FEVE) copolymers are well known as ultra-weatherable resins for the coatings industry.
This reversibility is shown by the addition product of thiol and
vinyl ether formed by reacting 1,8-dimercapto-3,6-dioxaoctane with 2 equivalents of isobutyl
vinyl ether.
where ([d[alpha]]/[dt])[.sub.ve] and ([d[alpha]]/[dt])[.sub.ep] are the contributions to the rate of reaction attributed to
vinyl ether and cyclo epoxy monomers, respectively, and [[alpha].sub.m,ve] and [[alpha].sub.m,ep] are the maximum degree of reaction attributed to
vinyl ether and cycloepoxy monomers, respectively.
The chemical structure of Aflas PM-1100 and PM-3000 is derived from tetrafluoroetheylene and perfluoroalkyl
vinyl ether, which are said to offer the ultimate resistance to chemicals, oils and solvents.
Including this polymer within our major portfolio of polymers for hairspray, such as polyvinylpyrrolidone-based polymers and methyl
vinyl ether and maleic acid (PVM/MA) copolymers, allows us to deliver a dynamic set of solutions to manufacturers of spray products, from a natural, flexible hold, to stiff hold."
