viscosity breaking
[vi′skäs·əd·ē ′brāk·iŋ] (chemical engineering)
A petroleum refinery process used to lower or break the viscosity of high-viscosity residuum by thermal cracking of molecules at relatively low temperatures. Also known as visbreaking.
