using low-hydrogen welding techniques for repair work because, McHenry says, cracks can form--even if the
weld metal wasn't embrittled--if too much hydrogen is used in welding.
The quality and performance of welded linepipes are evaluated and optimized through analysis of macrostructure, microstructure, mechanical properties, and corrosion behavior of the base metal and
weld metal. The effects of external soil temperature and concentration of internal corrosive solution on the corrosion behavior of the base metal and
weld metal are explored.
It is assumed that the weld is deposited instantaneously and the
weld metal is left to cool while distributing its heat into the whole structure until it returns to ambient temperature.
One of the real examples is formation of crystallization cracks in
weld metal. Schlett and Bush [8] were dealing with this problem on the weld joints and heat affected zone of the turbine disc because of the sulphur accumulation on the weld surfaces, residual stress and lowered capability of forming of weld joints.
This study was designed to determine the effect of weld repair on static and dynamic (i.e., fatigue) properties for conditions where the gage section of the test specimens is entirely
weld metal (full weld) or consist of both weld and base metal (half weld).
The topics include laser surface melting to repair stress corrosion cracking in
weld metal, pulsed laser surface treatment of multilayer gold-nickel-copper coatings to improve the corrosion resistance of components in electronics, liquid impingement erosion resistance, modifying the surface of steel to resist slurry erosion in power plants, and laser surface remelting to improve the erosion-corrosion resistance of nickel-chromium-aluminum-yttrium plasma spray coatings.
Porosity is a small pocket of gas caught in the
weld metal that can appear at any specific point on the weld or along its full length.
The all-positional Shield-Bright wires have a fast freezing slag to support the
weld metal. This enables deposition rates in positional welding that cannot be equalled by stick electrodes or solid wires.
