what3words
A geocoding system that divides the planet into 3x3-meter squares, roughly 10x10 square feet. A three-word address is assigned to each of the squares. For example. 1 Wall Street in New York is assigned the three words "///types.descended.rips." The Eiffel Tower is "///pushed.toolkit.tapes." The three slashes are the prefix of the address.
Founded in 2013, what3words is used to quickly communicate a current location for breakdowns, retail deliveries by truck or drone, geographic and emergency services, travel destinations and more. Any three-word address on the globe can be found on the what3words website or mobile app.
Why Three Words?
Because it is easier to remember, communicate or type in three words rather than a street address or longitude/latitude coordinates.
