wireless gateway

A wireless base station that allows sharing of a single Internet connection. It is an access point (base station) that provides network address translation (NAT) and dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP) functionality. Such devices are used in homes and small businesses when the wireless system is not attached to a LAN. LAN configurations are typically set up to provide Internet sharing and already have NAT and DHCP capability in a router or other device. See access point, NAT and DHCP.
