Casting Pattern

The following article is from The Great Soviet Encyclopedia (1979). It might be outdated or ideologically biased.

Casting Pattern

a device designed for the production in a mold of the working cavity of a casting. The casting pattern is usually a part of the pattern assembly. Casting patterns may be either of the one-piece type (for simple casting configurations) or may consist of two or more parts. Individual casting patterns are produced from wood or plastics; patterns for mass production and large-series production are made of metal or plastics. In the production of castings by the lost-wax or vaporizing pattern methods, casting patterns consisting of low-melting materials or foam plastics are used.
