Edge browser
Edge browser
A Web browser from Microsoft that debuted with Windows 10 in 2015. The default browser for PCs and Xbox, Edge superseded the venerable Internet Explorer browser (IE) introduced 20 years prior with Windows 95. Edge added the capability of marking up a Web page with a stylus along with cloud storage and virtual assistant integration (see OneDrive and Cortana). The Read Aloud feature lets people right click a location in the text on any Web page, and Edge converts the text to speech. See text-to-speech.
A New Chromium Version
In January 2020, Microsoft released a new version of Edge based on the same code as Google's Chrome browser (see Chromium). Available for Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS and Android, the new Edge offers greater privacy control, improved malware detection and support for 4K Netflix streaming. Extensions for the Chrome browser also work in Edge. See Windows 10 and Internet Explorer.Copyright © 1981-2025 by The Computer Language Company Inc. All Rights reserved.
