(1) (Information and Communications Technology) An umbrella term for information technology (IT) and telecommunications. In the past, computers and telecom were separate departments within an enterprise. Starting in the 1990s, they began to merge into one entity. The term is more widely used in Europe than in the U.S. See IT.
