Microdata

A syntax from the WHATWG for embedding tags in HTML pages to define data on the Web. It enables search engines to derive semantic meaning from the pages in order to provide more effective search results. RDFa was developed to address this issue, but Microdata was created as a simpler approach. See RDFa and WHATWG.
