Robins, Eli

(1921–  ) psychiatrist, biochemist, educator; born in Houston, Texas. He became head of the department of psychiatry at Washington University (St. Louis, Mo.) (1963–75). A proponent of biological psychiatry, he built one of the country's leading psychiatry departments. He left the university to devote himself full-time to research on suicide and biological aspects of mental illness, areas in which he became a leading expert.
