System/38

A minicomputer from IBM that included an operating system with an integrated relational database management system. Introduced in 1978, it was an advanced departure from previous System/3x computers. The typical system handled from a dozen to several dozen terminals. The System/38 evolved into the AS/400. See System/34, System/36 and AS/400.
